Dragon Cake

Doubling the recipe. The ground.
The caves.
The beginning. I had to make sure the caves were tall enough to fit the dragons.

Slowly coming together.

Chocolate sprinkles to look like rocks.

Grass.

Dragon brawl.

Underwear

We are spending the week learning how to use the toilet. Let me tell you a little story.


Sun shines through the window. We wake and jump out of bed to greet the day.
"It's time to get dressed," Mama says.
"Wow, look at all this underwear! You can pick any one you want."
William joins in. "How about Cars?, or Madagascar?, even Spiderman?. You have so many neat pairs."

"I am not wearing underwear!" Landon shouts. "Put a diaper on me now!"

Calmly Mama responds " We are wearing underwear today. You can chose a pair or I will."

"I am not wearing underwear!" Landon persists.

"O.K. you can go naked then."Mama smiles. "When we leave to bring William to camp I will put a diaper on."

This satisfies him for awhile and Landon spends some time running naked. As he sits down to eat breakfast he apparently doesn't like the feel of the chair on his hiney.

"Please put something on me?" Landon asks Mama.

"You can wear your pants." Mama replies.

Again we are happy for a bit. As we are getting our shoes on to leave- Landon suddenly remembers the Diaper.

"You said you would put a diaper on me." He says.

"Fine" Mama replies.

Mama really thought he would have forgotten. However, it turned out to be a good thing because there were a ton of errands to do. Finally at home Landon's diaper is sagging.

"I need to be changed." Landon states.

"How about we just take it off. No underwear, just your pants" Mama suggests.

This works. There's playing outside, dinner, and shower. Bedtime.

Landon comes happily into his room and picks out underwear. "I want to wear these to bed"

Humph.

What to do. All day Mama has tried. Now he wants to wear it.

To bed.

Go with it!

And guess what?

Landon wakes up dry. And ready for another day of underwear.Yeah!

So we read books while we wait for the pee and poop to come. We have a few accidents. We try all the different kinds of underwear. And we only asked for the diaper once. We will make it through.

And we are so very excited to flush it all down the toilet.

Party Crafting

This was the year of Birthday parties. It only happens every 3 years so it is a pretty big deal. William chose Dragons.
We try to craft many of the goodies and games.
Dragons are hard.
We decided to combine Dragons and Flag day.

First we made the bags.
Landon was always willing to help.

Goodies.

A pin, pencil, fruit leather, 2 lollipops, a dragon, and our Dragon beanbags we made.

Plus every child received a knight and a special treasure rock from the games we played.

William helped cut, stencil and fill with beans.

Again Landon lending a helping hand.

Cleaning up beans that spilt.

We had a nice time getting everything ready. William was proud to help and it felt so much more personal that he had a hand in what he was going to give his friends.

My baby is six! Time flies so quickly. I have learned some pretty amazing things these past six years from being his mama.

Trust my instincts.

Do what is right for us.

All he really needs is love.

Laughter is the best medicine.

Patience that I always thought I had but soon discovered I needed more.

Have fun.

It's not always easy but its the best job in the world.

Saturday June 13th

William's last game of soccer today. Great Gram and Uncle Chris came to see him play. He was so excited to have spectators other than the usual ones.

We came home and played in the yard, relaxed and had a nice lunch. It was a nice way to spend the day. I think it is so wonderful the boys have a Great Grandmother whom they can spend time with. They have such a fun time with her. I am sorry we don't see her more often- and now she is thinking of moving. We will miss her but know she has to do what is right for her.

It was a peaceful day which is what we needed. We had a long week at home preparing for parties and a very special Flag Day.(more to come later)

We made portrait bookmarks for Grampy's birthday. I had to wait until Grampy actually received them in order to post about them. I am absolutely loving them. They are so unique- what Grampy looks like in the boys' mind. And they are so easy to make. The boys drew a picture on cotton fabric, I embroidered and sewed it together with their choice of fabric.


Another wonderful idea from Soulemama. It is actually coming out in her new book, Handmade Home. She had posted it on the Mothering web site a few months ago but I couldn't get the link anymore.
