music festival

The annual art and music festival in our local city is currently going on. They have family music concerts on the green for free, so of course we checked it out.  They are great because they let the kids really participate and get up on stage. The boys had a great time.

weekend time

We had no place to be, no activities to get to, just some time to play and work at home... together.

We spent our days with Dad capturing the moments of life, because this is what it is all about. Time as a family, living and loving.

unexpected visitor

My brother flew into the state from far away California for a local golf tournament and we were planning on seeing him this Sunday, but plans changed and last night we visited instead. The boys were so excited to see their Uncle. We don't get to see him very often. Plus it was a stay up very late night, which they loved. Eating ice cream at 10:00pm. Crazy!  It was such fun to see them hang out with my brother. They had so much to share with him.  I do wish we were closer to visit more and that the boys could know their cousins a little more. But that's what makes these little visits so special and one they will remember.

battle and heartbreak

We tried something new last night. We went to a youth fighter practice. It was going to teach how to properly battle pre-17th century.

The boys were thrilled and had been anticipating this for 2 weeks.

There was much armor to put on first.

William was one of the first ones to be chosen to battle. There was a much bigger turnout than expected.

Landon patiently waited his turn, while Will was having a grand ol' time.

Then the heartbreak happened. As Landon was trying to get the rest of his armor on, he was asked his age.  A proud response of "I'm five."

"Oh, you can't fight until your 6."

"WHAT?"

Apparently the woman who runs it had said five year olds were fine, until she saw how many children showed up.

My heart just ached as I held my sobbing 5 year old. He had looked forward to this for over a week.

It was a very sad night. There was some serious  miscommunication. And for that my little one  had his heart broken. I know life is full if disappointments but as a mama, I try to my best to prevent situations like this.  Like we never would have gone had I known he couldn't do it.

It is a new day and life will go on, but oh, man was it hard.

On a good note, William learned some of the rules and techniques so I am sure they will be trying them out in our backyard. Plus we saw some neat shields and swords that we can make ourselves.

new foods

We joined our first CSA this year, which I am so excited about. We picked up our first share yesterday and got a wonderful box of fresh picked fruits and veggies.

I have never eaten swiss chard before so am looking go for recipes to try it with.  I found one online for beans, tomatoes, and garlic sauteed with olive oil. It tasted great and everyone had a bite - I had a few more than all the boys. Definitely something I would eat again.

I am looking forward to trying out lots of new food this summer!

Any suggestions for recipes would be great also.

my budding photographer

You just have to be comfortable when your shooting pictures!

a day of 8

There was some early rising today as there was much excitement for the big day. Our original plans of amusement park fun was cancelled by the rainy weather but we managed to have a pretty exciting day in the end.

 Painting by Landon

 New Rollerblades
The Famous Cake( 4 years running)

Then we headed out to some indoor/outdoor entertainment centers. We did it all. Two rounds of mini-golf, basketball, batting cages, lazer tag, paintball shooting, arcade games, and go karts.  It was great because we had the place to ourselves and the boys had a wonderful time. A very special treat since we don't frequent these kinds of places too often,

Lastly, an early dinner out to Hibachi. William is becoming quite the creature of habit. Same cake, same dinner every year.  It was a super special day  for a super special boy.

Happy Birthday William!
