Fishing

William asked Mama and Landon to come along to Nature class.

We picked a great day. They learned how to fish.

After a short discussion on the types of fish that may be in the pond they went on a hunt for worms.

Once the bamboo pole was ready they baited the hook and dropped the line in. After only a few minutes to every ones surprise there was a fish biting. It was a Pumpkin Seed fish. Really quite beautiful. Everyone had a chance to touch it and then we let it go.

This class has been a lot of fun. William has had such a great time and has met some new friends that he really enjoys being with. He is ready for the next session to start(it won't be until the fall). I also love the fact that they let Landon join in for a bit.

note to self

Mental note: Do not let a three year old eat a peanut butter and jelly sandwich in the car. What a gooey mess!

Field Trip Friday

A field trip was calling us today. William chose our destination. Kid City! A fun place filled with colorful rooms to let your imaginations take over.

The Fish Room

This room was a favorite. The boys loved collecting the fish, sorting by colors, sending it up the conveyor belt. Maybe one day we will have some fisherman in our family.

We've been here several times before and they still love going. We decided to purchase their year long membership. Not only is it good for Kid City but 160 across the United States, including 5 close to home.

Muffin Mania

Muffins! How we love them! Therefore, we try at least once a week to test out a new recipe. The boys love to bake and of course the tasting is the best part. Today was a Raspberry Corn Muffin from a Barefoot Contessa cookbook. It was a simply delicious corn muffin with raspberry preserves exploding out of it. That was the fun part. William compared it to a volcano exploding. Landon liked pushing the cake tip into the muffin and then squeezing out the preserves. It was a sticking gooey mess that was yummy to lick off your hands. A great activity for a rainy day.

We then followed it up with a little dancing. Daddy creates some pretty awesome play lists that we can rock out to.

A nice quiet activity to the end the day. Family drawing. Everyone picks a topic, then each person draws that subject for a few minutes before moving on. I got the idea from SouleMama. It was fun to see how everyone drew the same thing but differently. I can see the changes in the way both William and Landon are drawing these days. There ideas: William- sky, sun. Landon- hiking, moon. Mama- rain, favorite food. Daddy- boys playing soccer. Daddy walked in just as we were finishing up. They were thrilled to see daddy. He has been working late the past two nights.

Something New

We have been doing a little Spring cleaning these days and wanted to freshen up our rooms. Something I had made years ago for my mom but it was not getting used. Papa's quilt! This quilt was made from all the hankerchiefs my dad used to carry around in his back pocket. William now has it on his bed. He thinks its great to have part of Papa with him. It is wonderful to look at and makes his room feel new.

Nature Day

Today was a good outdoor day. William had nature class and learned all about bugs! Landon and I did a little hiking, threw sticks in the pond and played on the playground. It was so nice to be soaking up the sun.

After a little rest at home, both boys were anxious to get outside to their gardens. Daddy had prepared a new spot for them while he was building stairs for his shed. We had gone shopping yesterday for all the flowers and they couldn't wait to start digging. With no help from me they spread the flowers out and planned where they would go. While digging up the dirt they would stop every so often and find lots of interesting bugs and "dirt bombs" as Landon liked to say. I did end up helping Landon a little bit therefore he was able to finish his today. William is doing his all by himself so had to take a break and will finish tomorrow he says. Watching them connect with the earth was such a joy and how proud they are of their very own garden.

a new birth

I am excited for this to be my first post. I have been working on this blog for the past few months, trying to find just the right name. Almost like anticipating the birth of new child. Although, a new baby is by far much better. My hopes for the blog is for family and friends to keep up with what we are up to on a daily basis. To see what we are learning, creating and loving!

It is a beautiful here in Connecticut today. Sunny and windy. A great Spring day. We spent the morning just hanging out as a family and then went out to lunch. We tried a new restaurant in town. Lunch was good but the best part was dessert. Chocolate covered strawberries and white cholcolate mousse. Could it get any better? Not really.

I would have to say that my life is pretty good at the moment. I have two wonderful boys and a husband who works way too hard in order for us to live the life we do. We have fun and try to enjoy each day as it comes. I love being a mom and wouldn't trade it for anything. I do have hobbies, but my first job is being a mom. That is what I have always wanted and so far it has been pretty terrific!
